Insight meditation is about building the habit to be mindful over the long-term so that we train the mind to always return to the present moment. Because we are working on a long-term habit in our daily lives, regular short rounds of meditation are better than long rounds only once in a while. When we take time out from our busy schedules for a few weeks or on weekends, we are attempting to string together longer periods of mindfulness so that we can develop the wisdom that will encourage us to continue with our daily practice. In this way, a habit of regular daily practice and training during retreats work together to improve our mindfulness on a day-to-day basis.
