When we satisfy our cravings, we generally feel a moment of relief and transient satisfaction but this is soon to be replaced by going after the next thing that we want. Whatever feeling of satisfaction that we get is extremely fleeting. The Buddha explained that if we continually try to satisfy all of our cravings we will be wandering this world unsatisfactorily for a very long time, lifetimes in fact.

If we look at craving from another perspective, as something that we can overcome instead of something that we have to either satisfy or ignore, then we will find a different kind of satisfaction, one that comes from understanding our own mind.

This kind of perspective is relatively easy to obtain if we go about it in the right way. This is the purpose of practicing insight meditation which helps us bring our mind into the present moment at which time we can observe the craving for what it actually is.

That is why I urge you to take the time to train your mind at the Buddhavipassana Meditation Centre where we can help you overcome craving one moment at a time.
