There are many aspects of our lives that lead us to believe that achieving a good result is complicated. In reality that is not the case. Happiness comes from good causes just as suffering appears due to bad causes. So there is nothing complicated about becoming happy.
Where the difficulty comes in is determining which are good causes and which are bad causes. While there may be difficulty involved in getting this wisdom, the process of doing so is, again, not complicated. We simply need to observe what is happening.
Wisdom can be gained from observation using the Buddha’s tried and true method which is called insight meditation based on the four foundations of mindfulness. If we dedicate ourselves to observation of body, feelings, mind and mind objects, we will soon see what are the good causes we need to cultivate and what are the bad causes we need to avoid.
Happiness is not complicated because the Buddha has already done most of the work for us and has given us the answer. Now all we need to do is train ourselves in mindfulness and the simple answers that unlock the gates of happiness will flood over us like a tidal wave of truth.
