In world of scarce resources, one person’s gain is another person’s loss. When scarcity is the norm, suffering is inevitable because the defilements of greed, anger and delusion will always cause people to take for themselves instead of sharing with their neighbor.
However, when we practice insight meditation, we are taking a different approach. Instead of competing for scare resources, we are simply accessing what is abundant and plentiful. Real happiness that does not depend on conditions does not run out when you enjoy it. It is of infinite capacity and can be shared without limit.
This real happiness can be observed when we apply mindfulness because it is already there. It does not need to be created. It exists in every moment whether the mind is observing body, feelings, mind or mind objects because real happiness comes from an understanding of the true nature of things not from the achievement of a particular feeling or situation. If you learn to practice insight meditation you can observe this real happiness for yourself.
