One of the barriers to practicing meditation is the common belief that by devoting time to meditation practice we are wasting time and will fall behind on our work or miss out on leisure time.

This problem is caused by a misunderstanding of reality. The reverse is actually true. By training in mindfulness we actually save time. Mindfulness makes us more efficient in our work and as a result, we end enjoy it more and become more successful.

We can be grateful that such is the case, because this gives us a worthy goal to aim towards. If we can we can train ourselves to adopt and promote only good and useful habits, our minds will tend towards peace and calm and away from suffering.

The training that we need to adopt is the practice of brining the mind back to what we are doing in the present moment. Even a short weekend meditation course can make a difference by giving us a taste of what it can be like to live in the present moment.
