What separates successful meditators who make progress in their practice through a consistent method and those who find they do not gain much from meditation is an acceptance of change. When the mind is in the present moment, there cannot be worries about the future or the past so the mind should be content. However, what makes meditation difficult is not bringing the mind to the present moment, but doing it on a continual basis. Whatever arises to challenge us we should bring the mind back to the present over and over again. The not so well kept secret to a rewarding meditation practice, once one has found a suitable teacher, is to keep trying to bring the mind into the present moment. Sooner or later, this will start to become a habit and it will happen more naturally.
